Happy box was created when Ariel Redmond, a resident of Hoboken, was going through a breakup and her sister, Hannah Redmond, wanted to cheer her up with something unique. When Hannah realized that there was no way to easily create a personalized care package online, she saw a business opportunity and pitched the idea to her sister. The two built the business as a side activity while working in marketing and advertising, until a few weeks ago, when they both pledged to take the business full-time. They aim to continue to innovate in gifts and to continue to support other small businesses by purchasing a variety of their gift items from mission-based, women-owned and minority-owned businesses. Jen Tripucka, founder of Hoboken girl met Ariel + Hannah at the Happy Box launch.
Fast forward to the present day, with COVID-19 canceling plans for an in-person holiday market that Hoboken girl hosts each year, the three decided that something had to be done to keep the “little store” spirit alive, even in times of a pandemic.
Both brands are excited to launch this local box to create a platform for local brands to showcase some small businesses locally and offer a way to buy Christmas gifts on a small scale, while giving back to the community.
$ 1 from each sale will be donated to WomenRising, a Jersey City nonprofit, to help support women and their families. WomenRising helps women and their families. Our clients are in need – they need jobs, to be free from domestic violence, to be free from homelessness, to have a safe life for children. This Hudson County community organization provides counseling, employment assistance, shelter and more for women in our community.
