City of Racine dedicates $ 600,000 to COVID vaccine gift card incentive program

The town of Racine is allocating $ 600,000 of its American Rescue Plan Act allowance to fund a COVID vaccine incentive program.

The city offers gift cards to residents who receive a COVID vaccine at a clinic run by the City Hall Public Health Department, the AMI Expeditionary Healthcare Clinic at the Regency Mall, and a variety of pop-up clinics throughout the city. county.

Unvaccinated residents who receive a vaccine are eligible for a gift card of $ 50 per dose of Pfzier or Moderna vaccine, or $ 100 per dose of Johnson & Johnson vaccine. Those already vaccinated and bringing in unvaccinated residents to be vaccinated in eligible locations may also receive a $ 50 gift card.

The Joint Council on Tuesday approved the allocation of funds from ARPA. The incentive program begins today and will continue as long as the gift cards are available.

In Racine County, 46.3% of residents have completed their COVID vaccine series; 49.9% received at least one dose, according to data from the Department of Health Services. Statewide, 50.2% of residents completed their series, while 53.4% received at least one dose.

“As in the rest of the country, we are now seeing an increasing number of city dwellers contracting the Delta variant of COVID-19,” Mayor Cory Mason said. “We know that those who are hospitalized or who have the worst health effects from the virus are almost entirely unvaccinated. We also know that getting the vaccine is the best way to prevent infection or prevent serious health consequences if you are infected. Our immunization rates continue to lag behind the rest of the state, and I’m grateful that the council has approved this plan to provide gift card incentives. I hope these incentives will encourage more of our residents to get vaccinated to help us quickly protect our friends and loved ones from illness or death. “
