A $ 25 Target gift card for students and family members who get vaccinated | Letters to the Editor

After the past 18 months of trying to ensure that our children get the education they need and deserve despite the obstacles posed by COVID-19, we are starting another school year, determined to keep schools open for learning in person so that we can all come back to some sort of normalcy.

We use all the mitigation measures we have available, but the Delta variant is difficult and the number of cases in the community is high. When a student or staff member tests positive for COVID-19, some students have to quarantine themselves and sometimes entire classes have to be closed, which thwarts our best efforts to keep our kids in school.

A comment in the Aug. 31 edition of the Registry suggested it might be time to tax those who refuse to be vaccinated. Other suggestions included excluding the unvaccinated from various locations and activities. We want to keep all of our children in school, not exclude them from school, so we would like to offer a small incentive to get more people vaccinated to reduce the spread of COVID in Napa.

The Napa County Office of Education will provide a $ 25 Target Gift Card to any eligible Napa County student, parent, sibling of a student who provides proof to our office that they have received their first or second vaccination in September. For example, an unvaccinated family of two adults with three children 12 or older could walk away with $ 125 in Target gift cards.
